The Bogan Bulls have continued their winning form with a third consecutive victory this time over the Brewarrina Brumbies at Larkin Oval last Saturday.
In the days leading up to the game coach Rob Kennedy expressed concerns about being able to field a team due to the number of players on tractors for sowing season, so there were a lot of empty seats on the bench as the previously undefeated Brumbies took the field.
Both teams came to play, with a good half hour of back and forth arm wrestling before mountainous forward Ryan Sambath crossed the line for the first try of the game putting the Nyngan team ahead.
Some sloppy ball handling by the Bulls allowed the Brumbies to take possession and respond with a quick try, converted for a 12-7 lead. It was to be the only time the Bre boys scored as the Bulls clicked into high gear and took ownership of the field.
Some classic forwards-dominant play put the Bulls in position for Bubba Perry to break the line and sprint 20 metres to the line for an unchallenged try under the posts.
The second half was all Bulls with a third try to Dom Kennedy off a penalty scrum won by the powerful Bulls forward pack. The full-time whistle blew with the Bulls ahead 19-7. Player points went to Tom Cleaver, Tom McNamara, and Ryan Sambath.
The Brumbies were keen to salvage some dignity by fielding a reserve grade team.
The Bulls were looking short until Gunther Greilinger said "hold my beer, I'm going on".
After a brief argument with the ref over whether smoking was still allowed in scrums, Gunther led reserve grade stalwarts Richie Deebank, Tim Smith, and Lino Lemeki around the park supported by a few determined first graders to completely demolish the visitors with a 20-17 victory.
The Bogan Bulls travel to Coonamble this Friday evening to take on the Rams under lights.
The Bogan Bulls are undefeated, sitting in second place on the Western Plains ladder below the Coonamble Rams due to the win margins of the early games.
The Rams are yet to play a strong team this year and the Bulls are their primary challengers.
Both teams will want to continue their unbeaten streak.
The Rams will have the home ground advantage, the Bulls will have players returning from travel and sowing duties. It will be a clash worth travelling to watch. Look for the Bogan Bulls on facebook for more photos of Saturday's match.
